The history of International Women's Day dates exists since the early 20th century. The first International Women's Day was celebrated in March, 1911 in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland. Over a million of men and women participated in rallies, demonstrations, and events to demand women's right to vote, work, and hold public office.
Today, International Women's Day is celebrated globally. It serves as a reminder of the progress made and the ongoing challenges that women face, while also celebrating the achievements of women in all fields of life.
For us as Helvetia group the International Women's Day it is an important date to reflect where we stand today/now and where we want to be in the future.
We aim to achieve gender equality within Helvetia. To accomplish this, we regularly assess our progress, set goals, and implement measures.
Currently 54% of our employees are female. 31% of Leadership functions are held by women. This number increased significantly by 11% in the last year. How did we achieve this?
"The Helvetia Market Units partner with institutions in their countries e.g. Switzerland with Advance, Italy with Valore D, Germany and Austria with Charta der Vielfalt to improve Gender Equality."
The country markets also offer specific courses or coaching for all women and specifically for women in management/leadership positions.
There is broad support within the company: both at Group level and in the country markets, there is at least one person responsible for diversity and the advancement of women.
In the countries, there are also other committees to support this responsible person to anchor diversity even better and more broadly within the company.
With these measures, we are striving for even more gender equality within Helvetia.
"To reach gender equality, it needs us all. At Helvetia, we want to create an inclusive and diverse environment and I would like to encourage everyone to contribute in some way. Be it with actions, be it with ideas."
